Within the doctoral program, doctoral education is provided in 5 branches of science: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.
1 | To train PhD graduates who can conduct literature research on a special subject in one of the sub-branches of the Department of Chemistry, apply experimental studies on this research topic in the laboratory, evaluate the laboratory results obtained and present them in a scientific report, and work in research and development institutions. |
2 | Has the knowledge and skills of basic work (analysis and synthesis) in chemistry laboratories, can transfer this knowledge and skills to others, can use analytical devices, is sensitive to people, society and the environment, understands the place of himself and his profession in social development, has gained proficiency and ethical responsibility in his profession, is capable of training and research. To train graduates who can work in the fields needed by institutions and the industry. |
3 | To train scientists who can contribute by producing current solutions to problems in chemistry and related disciplines, become leaders in scientific research, participate in R&D studies or contribute to the country with academic studies. |
4 | To train doctoral graduates who can work as academicians in departments of national and international universities, train students, and advise postgraduate thesis studies. |
5 | To train graduates who can work as experts in private and public institutions, who can work as managers in the applications of chemistry in different fields, who can provide consultancy in various industrial institutions on issues related to their field, and who can take part in research-technology development projects in different fields of chemistry and interdisciplinary departments. |
The global nature of the chemical industries offers career opportunities in Turkey, Europe and elsewhere. According to their personal interests and preferences, our graduates can work in many fields such as research and development, design, production, marketing, after-sales services and project development. Our graduates can find employment opportunities in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), large-scale companies and multinational companies that have laboratories. They can also pursue an academic career by enrolling in related doctoral programs at universities in Turkey and abroad. Graduates of the Chemistry Doctorate program can take part in national and international projects and R&D activities. They can work as teaching staff in higher education institutions.
Since this program is the highest degree program in education, there is no upper degree program transition status.
Students in the doctoral program are subject to at least one midterm exam, one activity and a final exam for each course. The contribution of the midterm exam to the success grade is 40% and the contribution of the final exam is 60%. All exams are evaluated out of 100 points. Students who receive one of the letter grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) in a course are considered to have passed that course. The seminar course and thesis study are non-credit and are evaluated as pass or fail. Students who complete their doctoral thesis study take the thesis exam. The doctoral thesis exam consists of the presentation of the thesis study and the question and answer section that follows. After the thesis exam is completed, the jury decides on the acceptance, rejection or correction of the thesis by a simple majority. Students who pass the thesis exam are entitled to receive a doctoral diploma.
