The aim of this course; Understanding the techniques of painting art in ancient times, recognizing the subjects covered, starting from the Paleolithic period to the Archaic Period, to recognize the areas and subjects where the paintings were made.

2 Discusses the effect of painting on the political development of the ancient period.
3 Discusses the effect of painting on the social development of art in Antiquity.
4 Comprehends the infrastructure of the art of painting in Antiquity.
5 Comprehends the importance of painting art in Antiquity.

Definition of painting and some terms related to painting art, paint, floor, material etc. topics will be discussed. The purpose of painting and related theories and examples of painting from the beginning to the Archaic Period will be emphasized.


Week Subjects (Theoretical) Teaching Methods Preparatory
1 Information about the course teaching method and resources will be given. The course will be introduced and information will be given about its scope and importance.
2 General information about the techniques used in ancient painting art will be given.
3 Information about the paintings made in the Paleolithic Period and their subjects will be given, and the paintings seen in the caves of this period will be conveyed.
4 Information will be given about the paintings and their subjects found in centers such as Çatalhöyük and Göbekli Tepe, which are examples of Neolithic painting art in Anatolia.
5 In the art of painting in the Chalcolithic Period, finds from Anatolia and Mesopotamia and their features will be conveyed.
6 The developments in the Bronze Age painting art will be explained and the examples of the painting art of this period in Anatolia will be discussed.
7 Information will be given starting from the early examples of Egyptian painting, and the characteristics of Egyptian painting will be conveyed with examples.
8 By giving general information about Minoan and Mycenaean painting art, painting subjects and dating will be given.
9 General information about Lydian and Persian interactive painting, Uşak Tumuli, Karaburun, Elmalı Kızılbel tomb paintings will be given and painting subjects will be explained.
10 By giving general information about the Italian Etruscan painting art, its periods, interactions and painting subjects will be conveyed.
11 Information will be given on the paintings and subjects found in the Archaic Period in continental Greece and the islands.
12 Information will be given about the changes in the Classical Period painting art, the artists and their works, the subjects and their myths in the light of the information given by the ancient sources.
13 General terminology about mosaic art will be given.
